July 2010 Schoenstatt Girl’s CampCalled to be royal – Do you dare to learn? On July 15th to 18th a girl’s camp was held at Mount Schoenstatt, Mulgoa.
Katie Mallett (16yrs) and Shivanthika Jayalath (23yrs) share their experiences:
Katie: “With 37 girls aged 9-15yrs the 3 days spent at Mt. Schoenstatt were full of excitement, fun and laughter. The girls enjoyed crafts, a movie night, a talent quest, a bushwalk and lots more. The theme of the camp was “Called to be royal - Do you dare to learn?” The girls participated in many sessions and activities related to the theme such as games, discussions, singing and prayer.”
Shivanthika: “The camp concluded with a family activity where a skit was performed in front of the parents. The skit again reflected the theme of the camp where one is called to be royal not by means of wealth and outward perception but by the virtues one carries such as forgiveness, kindness, honesty, respect and prayerfulness to name a few.
As a whole, many girls had different views on what we spoke and they all contributed to group discussions equally. Mutual understanding and respecting each others’ views were maintained very well by all the girls. All the girls made an effort to cooperate as best as they could. This was mostly highlighted during group discussion on “how to be royal in the eyes of God”, art and craft sessions and the preparation for the talent quest. Towards the end of the camp I had the opportunity to speak to a handful of the girls and personally ask them about what they thought about the camp. The answers were very optimistic and they said that they look forward to the next camp. I personally think that the willingness of the girls to return to another event, says a lot about the importance of running these camps that perhaps give some of the girls an opportunity to make the journey with Our Lady and accept that royal calling from God.”
Katie: “I was my first time being a youth leader and I had a lot of fun. It was a new experience and I learnt a lot. I look forward to seeing the girls again soon in the near future and I hope many more girls can also share the experience. I would like to thank Sr. Luka for organising and preparing the camp. I would also like to thank the two mums who cooked for us over the duration of the camp. Their help is greatly appreciated.”
Shivanthika: “It was an incredible experience as a youth leader to support and give my best to make the camp a success. Working with teams and getting to know most of the girls at an interpersonal level was something that I had not yet experienced and indeed this was an opportunity for that.”
There will be camps offered at Mount Schoenstatt during school holidays. For details and further information please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . |
